Have you ever wondered what would Martin Luther King Jr. and Gandhi be doing if they were alive today? Here's one organization that is taking their message of peace and love on the road: Soulforce.
From March to April 2007, fifty-six activists, in two buses, will spend 50 days riding across the United States visiting 32 schools sharing a message of hope, compassion, love, and understanding.
One rider shares his views regarding the event, "I once heard a story about the sun and the wind. They got in a contest to see who could get a man to take off his jacket. The wind howled and screeched, trying to blow off the man's jacket. But, this only caused him to wrap it tighter. Then, the sun smiled down on him, warming him up until he took off his jacket willingly. Needless to say, this ride is not about howling and screeching; it is about extending warmth to institutions defensively clutching a mantle of fear and falsehood." |

"Fighting in the darkness is futile; we have to generate light. Just as one small flame can suddenly illuminate a dark room, each one of us has the ability to generate spiritual light that contributes to the dispelling of darkness in our Holy Land, throughout the world and in our personal lives. We have the means to fight the fire of negativity and intolerance with a fire of our own - the flame of the Shabbat candles." - from the One Shabbat, One World website
"We look at the development of the advertising industry from a basic service that used to tell us what was simply available on the market, to a over 450 billion dollar a year industry of perception management. ... It is proposed, that by re-inventing consumerism, we can re-claim our fundamental freedom to choose the world in which we live. By paying close attention to our activity as the consumers that drive industry, as the labor force that keeps businesses alive and as the investors that support these enterprises, we are able to transform the world in which we live, both locally and globally." This outreach organization was established by John Edwards. From the website, "This campaign is about each of us taking responsibility for our country's future -- and ensuring America’s greatness in the 21st century. It is a campaign not just about what we can do in the White House -- but what we can do on the way. We all must take responsibility and take action now to: Provide moral leadership in the world, Strengthen our middle class and end poverty, Guarantee universal health care for every American, Lead the fight against global warming, and Get America and other countries off our addiction to oil. If we want to live in a moral and just America tomorrow, we cannot wait until the next President is elected to begin to take action. Tomorrow begins today." Update 20070101mo2150: "Over the last four days we have added 350 new chapters across the country and our number of members has quadrupled. And, over the same four days, thousands of people swarmed to see Senator Edwards in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, South Carolina, and North Carolina. It appears this country is ready for change! We don't have to wait for a new president to see that change; Senator Edwards created One Corps so that we can begin today to build the one America we all believe in. Let's get to it. Many of you have already begun exploring the site, asking questions, sending suggestions, and getting active. Thank you. ... In the coming days and weeks you'll notice many changes to the site that will better allow you to take action and to communicate with other members. Also, in the next few days, I'll send along a recap of our highly successful December nation action - the One Corps Food Drive - and details about our upcoming projects, including the first National Day of Action on January 27th. But please don't wait for me to get started - you can begin today by inviting your friends, filling out your profile, and starting in on local projects. Thank you for joining One Corps, for all the work you've already done, and for all the change you're about to bring. Together -- as One Corps -- we will create the one America we all believe in." Throughout the world, millions of people are living in refugee camps, having fled violent conflicts and upheaval in their home countries. Film Aid International uses the power of film to promote health, strengthen communities, and enrich the lives of the world's vulnerable and uprooted.
