“Pakistan: Record-Breaking Rain Floods Streets Of Lahore, At Least Three Killed” — Pakistan’s cultural city of Lahore experienced record-breaking rainfall on Thursday resulting in at least three fatalities. The heavy rain inundated streets, disrupted traffic and impacted daily life. The downpour began before dawn and is anticipated to continue intermittently for a week, as per Pakistani authorities. They warned that the rains could trigger flash floods and landslides. The intensity of the rainfall led to widespread flooding, with rainwater seeping into wards of hospitals. Some areas recorded an unprecedented 353 millimetres of rain within three hours, surpassing the previous 44-year record set in July 1980, which was 332 millimetres over the same period. Meanwhile, the death toll from rain-related incidents in the past month has exceeded 100. [Source]
