Founder’s Message

On a cold morning in March 2023, I started my day as usual, reading the news. I was shocked to learn that Iowa Wesleyan University would be closing after 181 years. [Source]

I’m an alumnus of the University of Iowa, and after graduating, spent most of my professional career working for the University of Iowa. I’m now among the many people who donate to the University.

Although I’m a strong supporter of the University of Iowa, I realize it’s important to communicate the opportunity and value of higher education — regardless of the specific institution.

We have healthy rivalries among higher education institutions: academic rankings, sporting events, and other competitions, but ultimately we don’t compete against each other. We compete with each other to help promote the ideals of expanding one’s education and career opportunities.

The only competition colleges face is the mindset of those who don’t yet realize the benefits that vocational training and continuing education offer. The challenge is to convey the value of higher education as something worth pursuing and supporting.

So, with that in mind, I created the Iowa Education news feed as a place for curated positive news about Iowa Education.
