When purchasing ebooks, it’s important to consider your long-term access to the new digital library you’re building. Apple sells books through their iBooks online store. Until recently, books in the Apple iBooks format were only readable on iPhone, iPad, and iPod devices. With the Apple Mavericks OS X (10.9) operating system, it’s now possible to read your iBooks content on a desktop or notebook computer.

Amazon sells books for their Kindle devices and those ebooks also work on the Amazon Kindle Reader software that is available on numerous devices including all Apple products, all Windows products, and all Amazon Kindle devices. This makes the Amazon Kindle library more portable, compatible, and accessible. [Buy on Amazon]
