Philanthropists such as Bill Gates and Warren Buffet are well known for giving billions of dollars, but such large donations rarely seem to directly and broadly impact smaller grass roots organizations. This initiative by Pepsi is an excellent example of corporate philanthropy.

How it Works. Smaller grants like these, that are open to the public for submission and voting, allow philanthropy to reach people and projects that might otherwise get overlooked. The RefreshEverything.com website explains how the submission and voting process works.

Categories. The grant categories include: Health, Arts & Culture, Food & Shelter, The Planet, Neighborhoods, and Education.

“Each month, up to $1.3 million will be awarded as follows: 2 Grants at the $250,000 level; 10 Grants at the $50,000 level; 10 Grants at the $25,000 level; and 10 Grants at the $5,000 level.”
