Small House Society – News 201210 | 31 October 2012 | Wednesday

Dear Friend,

I know that time is precious for everyone, so I’ll try to keep this update short. The approximate reading time is about 5 minutes. Further down, there’s some repetition of announcements from last month for those who’ve just joined the list.

Media Coverage. This past month I’ve been doing quite a bit of behind the scenes work assisting journalists who are working on stories about the small house movement. As these stories become publicly available, I’ll provide links in future newsletters.

Fair Companies. We’ve seen some regular coverage of the small house movement by Fair Companies. This month, they produced a nice video about Austin Hay, the 16-year-old who built his own tiny house. Austin is in his senior year of high school and he has finally completed his home, including a full kitchen, DIY sofa-bed, nearly full-sized shower and composting toilet.

The Politics of Tiny Houses. Earlier this year, Joan Packard interviewed Jay Shafter about the politics of the small house movement. The video hasn’t had much circulation, so we’re featuring it here.

Thanks. I want to thank the global team of volunteers and contributors “behind the scenes” who help make all this possible. I’m very grateful to the many people who continue to uphold and advance the mission of the Small House Society. Thanks again for your support. Please let me know if there is any way that the Small House Society can serve you better.
