New Site Design
If you’ve checked in on the site recently, you’ll see a new simpler design with dark mode support for those wanting an easier on the eyes experience. I’ve switched the site back to WordPress. The thousands of posts are now accessible, with some outdated content removed.
Late Winter
Other than occasional dips to temperatures in the 30s and some unexpected late snow, we’re well into spring here in Iowa. This “winter” update is mostly a placeholder and allows me to not skip an issue of the seasonal news. I’m planning to distribute a Spring 2022 newsletter with additional news soon. This post was created and distributed on 2 May 2022, but it is given a date of 1 Dec 2021 to coincide with the start of the winter season.

How Site Notifications Work
To create and distribute the Fall 2021 newsletter in September, I had to switch the site from the simple HTML design, back to the WordPress site, since it’s through the JetPack connection I’m able to reach the site subscribers.
The JetPack service is a single WordPress plugin that offers many services and functions, including a subscription system for post notifications by email.
I have some people following through the MailChimp subscription, but hundreds more who are only notified of updates when a post is published to the WordPress site. The MailChimp notifications I send out manually.
