Summary
This page provides news and information about Public Lands in 2025.
Public lands are typically wilderness areas that took thousands of years to evolve, and they have been protected by society from one generation to the next over hundred of years. In addition to providing critical natural habitats for wildlife, they are destinations enjoyed by millions of people.
In June 2025, it was proposed by some legislators that we open 60 million acres of national forest and public lands for commercial purposes. This is effectively stealing lands from future generations for a short-term selfish gain, rather than preserving those lands and passing them on as was done by generations before us.
On 26 Jun 2025, widespread bi-partisan protests resulted in a stop to the proposed land sale.
